Cranial Sacral Balancing is a light touch, non-invasive form of body therapy designed to affect and enhance the function of the Cranial Sacral System. This system is composed of the bones of the skull, face and spinal column. Attatched to the inside of the bones is a sac-like membrane - the dura membrane. This membrane contains cerebral spinal fluid and encases the brain and the spinal cord, which is bathed and nourished by this fluid.
The Cranial Sacral System moves in a rhythmic, pulsing motion. Restrictions of the membranes can be detected by monitoring the qualities of this rhythm and determine the location of the restricted motion. Restrictions are treated by gentle manipulation to free up the membranes. These membranes cannot be directly reached from outside the body. Since they have attachments to the inside of the bones of the head (cranium) and the tailbone (sacrum), the therapists uses these bones as 'handles' to affect the membranes themselves. Restriction of normal motion can have varied affects. Possible symptoms include: chronic pain, headaches, dizziness, low energy, ringing in ears, sleep disorders, depression, dyslexia, poor coordination.
